Our mission

Founded in 1904 with a mission of ministering to our neighbors, Good Shepherd Home is a not-for-profit community committed to enhancing the lives of seniors through individualized, holistic care in a warm, welcoming environment. The community is affiliated with the Church of the Brethren and open to people of all faiths, without regard to race, creed, color, gender or national origin.

Volunteers make the difference!

One of the things that makes Good Shepherd Home a special place to live is the involvement of volunteers from the surrounding community. Volunteers serve our residents in various ways and are always appreciated. Whether you are available to serve our residents once a week or once a month—a little or a lot—any service you can provide is important for the benefit of our residents.  Here are a few examples of the ways volunteers help enhance the lives of older adults:
  • Mail delivery
  • Library/book cart service
  • Operating Eagle Creek General Store
  • Providing music programs
  • Making personal and birthday visits
  • Serving as activity helpers
  • Assisting with chapel services
  • Assisting with outings
  • Acting as bingo helpers
  • Providing in-house transportation to dental clinic or beauty salon
Support our caring mission financially

Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary was founded in 1963 with a mission to provide comforts for our residents.  Today this organization boasts a membership of nearly 200 dedicated individuals. Each year the Auxiliary raises funds for items that enhance the quality of our residents’ lives and for projects needed by the Home.  The all-volunteer organization also manages purchasing and operations of the community’s lovely Eagle Creek General Store.

The Auxiliary Bazaar, an annual fundraising event, is held each fall. The Auxiliary also sponsors a variety of events throughout the year for fundraising, fun and fellowship including a Chili Cook-Off, Grandparents Program, Ice Cream Social and holiday festivities.

Proceeds from the annual bazaar are used to provide needs and comforts for the residents such as medical equipment, camp fees, activity entertainment and other items that directly impact our residents. Auxiliary funds are also used to purchase beauty shop supplies, which offsets hair care cost to our residents.

Reaching out to our community

In everything we do, Good Shepherd Home strives to reach out to the greater Fostoria community. We encourage families, friends and community to become involved in the lives of our residents and to feel at home here. We welcome visitors, civic organizations, family and friends to our campus regularly and participate in a wide range of community outreach efforts, such as:
  • Distributing bi-annual community newsletter
  • Sponsoring youth artwork programming
  • Serving as a host site for American Red Cross Bloodmobile, Life Line screening, Shepherd Center, United Way and other community programs and events
  • Providing meeting space and meals for various civic organizations including Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Optimist, Altrusa and Inter-Agency Club
  • Hosting National Day of Prayer Services in our Chapel
  • Providing space for Daybreak Adult Day Care program
  • Hosting Voter’s Forum sponsored by Good Shepherd Home League of Voters
  • Serving as a local voting precinct
  • Participating in Relay for Life
  • Hosting Good Samaritan Dinner and Auction
  • Sponsoring an Annual Membership Dinner – open to anyone who has an interest in Good Shepherd Home and its mission.
